Birthday Boy

Manda carried the bundle of his son wrapped in his blanket into the living room where RUpert and Immy already were. The room was decorated with birthday decorations and there was a pile of presents in front of the television. "Ru-ru, wake up," he said gently, shaking his now four year-old son.

"No-no...I sleep..." Ru-ru snuggled into his daddy.

Rupert was sitting on the sofa with Immy sitting beside him.

"Yes, Ru-Ru, open your eyes and look at the t.v." Manda said.

Immy looked up at her daddy, and then swung her legs up onto the sofa so that she was kneeling on it. She then crawled over onto Rupert's lap, settling down happily and snuggling back against him.

Ru-ru did so very slowly and then was wide awake "PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN!"

Rupert's eyes were a little watery and he stroked her hair softly.

Manda laughed and put the wriggling boy down on the floor. THe presents were wrapped up in dinosquar paper. One was a lot bigger than the others. "Ru-ru, leave the big one till last."

Immy looked up at him from his lap, smiling happily.

"DINO-SAURRRRR!!!" Ru-ru grinned, crawling lazily over to the present pile.

Rupert kissed his daughter on the cheek.

Manda followed him over. "Shall we take the presents over to the sofa so that daddy and Immy can see?"

Immy giggled happily.

"But you're daddy...you can see..." Ru-ru frowned.

Rupert slipped an arm around her.

"But Immy can't, and neither can Rupert," manda pointed out

Immy snuggled back against him, then watching her brother

"But it's my birthday!" Ru-ru complained.

Rupert sighed. "Your sister would love to see you open them, Ru-ru..."

Manda picked up one present and gave it to Ru, then picking him up and carrying him over to the seat adjacent to the sofa where he then placed him. "I'll pass you the others, okay?"


Immy nodded enthusiasticaly with what her dad had said. "Open it, Ru-Ru!"

"Who it from?" he asked, picking the present up.

"That one is from Rupert," Manda said softly.

He paused before opening it

Manda smiled, glancing to his husband before going back to watching Rupert.

Immy looked excited, leaning forward slightly in her dad's lap to watch.

Rupert's hold on Immy loosened, worried of overstepping boundaries.

Ru-ru paused.

"Go on," Manda encouraged softly.

Immy;s hands went onto his arms, trying his pull them a little more around her to tighten the hold a bit, still watching her little brother

Rupert held her tightly, happy she as happy to be held like this.

Ru-ru tore it open.

IMmy looked very happy and excited

Manda watched as his son revealed the dinosaur lunchbox and water bottle.

Ru-ru looked super excited. "WOW!"

Rupert felt tired.

"What do you say to Rupert?" Manda said softly.

Immy grinned happily

"Rank-poo..." he mumbled, avoiding saying the actual words. But it sounded close enough.

Rupert stroked her hair.

"Good boy," Manda smiled, kissing his forehead. He picked up another present and passed it to him. "Here's one from me." The present was a tube like shape.

Immy looked up at him happily, smiling, then watching her brother again.

Rupert watched his son slowly.

Ru-ru shook it and then smelt it.

It didn't make a sound, and smelt only slightly of fresh paper.

Manda changed to.watching his husband.
